who we are

Based in Rotterdam NL,  Green Sparrow is founded by Phyllis Wong.  Trained as an architect Phyllis’ interest and curiosity in cooking embarked after entering motherhood.  She saw the need of a warm and nourishing meal; ready whenever needed even more than before.  This could save a typical scenerio; a headless chicken (parent) trying to multi-task after the end of a long day, hungry and exhausted yet still trying to whip up dinner for the whole family.  While at the background, one (or more!) desperate and equally tired child weeps his heart out for attention.  Hence the birth of a catering company that provides nutritious meal for families with busy parents and to any customers who enjoys eating our way.  We also cook with seasonal, local and organic/free range ingredients, 100% (home)made with love.

Phyllis has been trained at La Cuisine Francaise in Amsterdam NL and The Ashburton Cookery School in Devon UK.  Her cooking career started after leaving the architecture field when her first child was born.  Phyllis has a diverse background.  She is born and raised in tropical Singapore but spent her last 20 years living in Los Angeles, London and now Rotterdam.  Her repertoire is rich. Asian and oriental cooking is what she is brought up with. But at the forefront nowadays are gastronomies that includes the versatile Chinese menu, the multi faceted American palette plus the rich and traditional European cuisine.  Take a look at our gallery and events.

what we do

Green Sparrow is a catering company that caters seasonal, local and nutritious homemade fares.  We strive a motto promoting and maintaining a sustainable lifestyle by eating wise.  We play our part by using local produces to support our local farmers and aim to source most of our ingredients within the Zuid-Holland region.  We want to reduce the increasing carbon footprint and to reduce environment impact by eating organic (as much as possible) to reject pesticides and unnecessary irrigation done to our land.  We also want to feed ourselves by dining seasonally which provide us good quality and better tasting food.

No additives or artificial ‘E’-flavouring are used in our creation.  We believe in the true and natural taste of all ingredients and is very careful with the use of salt and sugar.

We also cater private parties ranging from office lunches to events on location. Pending on number of guests, a month notice is normally needed for such events.
